- About PSL
Septic Shock Models
PSL uses several models for septic shock. Cecal ligation and puncture is a commonly requested model that mimics many aspects (hyperdynamic and hypodynamic phases) of human septic shock. This is a sepsis of mixed bacterial types including anaerobic bacteria. Rats can also be injected, iv or ip, with bacteria such as E. coli and mortality as well as bacterial numbers in tissues evaluated to assess ability to fight infection.Endotoxin simulates some aspects of sepsis (although not all) and is useful because of the reliability and ease of this model. Type of endotoxin used will be tailored to client needs.
